About Prebiotic Fiber

To be classified as a prebiotic fiber, a food must scientifically demonstrate that it:

  1. Resists gastric acidity, hydrolysis by mammalian enzymes, and absorption in the upper gastrointestinal tract.

  2. Is fermented in the intestinal microflora.

  3. Selectively stimulates the growth and/or activity of intestinal bacteria potentially associated with health and well-being.

All prebiotics are fiber, but not all fibers are prebiotics.

When you routinely consume enough fiber

Individuals with high intakes of dietary fiber appear to be at significantly lower risk for developing coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and certain gastrointestinal diseases.

 

Increasing fiber intake lowers blood pressure and serum cholesterol levels. Increased intake of soluble fiber improves glycemia and insulin sensitivity in non-diabetic and diabetic individuals.

About Mixmi's soluble corn fiber

Mixmi uses a fiber that is included on the FDA list of dietary fibers. It can fulfill consumer desires for tasty, fiber-full foods and beverages that are well tolerated, and have proven satiety benefits.

Our fiber is a digestion resistant maltodextrin (a type of dietary fiber). This classification is consistent with both the American Association of Cereal Chemists’ and the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences’ (NAS) definitions of dietary fiber.

What Mixmi's fiber does

Dietary fibers as prebiotics have been well-documented. In particular, our functional fiber has previously been shown to be moderately bifidogenic in healthy subjects. It works with the probiotics that are already in Mixmi and also the good bacteria naturally present in your body.

Resistant maltodextrin was well tolerated, resulting in favorable fermentation characteristics in the large bowel, and also resulted in change in bacterial populations.
